I had high hopes for this place between the good ratings and high praise.
Left quite disappointed. The meals are not seasoned well , we ordered a ruben toastie and avocado smash. Very very basic. Not seasoned and bare minimum presentation. Might as well charge the extra 5 odd dollars for the extras that normally come with these dishes (like salad or toppings). At the very least, please season it. It felt like something put together in a hurry after a bad hangover.
Barely any space to sit properly. I don't understand the high ratings, the food isn't reflective of it. The wait staff however were fantastic and kind. Very attentive and nice.
Black Gold café exceeded all expectations with its exceptional service and delightful ambiance. The highlight of my visit was the fabulous steak sandwich – a perfect blend of succulent, well-cooked steak and mouthwatering flavors. The attentive and very kind staff and inviting atmosphere make it a must-visit for anyone craving a memorable dining experience. Highly recommended.

Black Gold has been on my “hit list” for a while now.. finally got a chance to visit. Such a cute little cafe with fantastic vibes! Of course, came to try the toasties and they did not disappoint! The “Caprese” had a cheese pull in every bite, it was amazing! The bread was fantastic and that pesto was divine! I’d happily go back for it over and over., a friend tried the “ham hock” and said it was delicious, will definitely go back to try some of the other options. Staff are friendly and very tentative, even stopping to have a chat and ask how your food is.. I love it! Coffee also delicious 👏🏻 Definitely recommend a visit! 🖤
Imagine my delight when I accidentally stumbled across this unreal cafe. In all honesty I was on the way to another I go to when I’m in Melbourne every fortnight, but they were closed.
So glad the other one was closed. Black Gold was sensational.
I always have eggs for breakfast but the look of the toasties were too compelling not to venture outside my comfort zone. And I did.
The Ruben with extra pastrami. Holy smokes… what a toastie!!! I will 100% be back again.

I really wanted to like this place, but I was honestly slightly disappointed in my dish, I chose the Cafe based on all the photos of the beautifully plated food and my one looked like they gave up on all the creativity. My Avocado on toast had no garnish, no colours, no effort. The flavors were okay.. nothing too exciting, but my partner absolutely loved her Rueben toasty and the service was friendly so I would like to give it another go and hopefully get a bit more love next time.
Staff were super friendly and welcoming. The reuben toastie was full of flavour and packed with quality ingredients. Great experience overall. I'll definitely be visiting again
Amazing coffee, I think its the best Latte I have had in Melbourne. The Tuna Melt was amazing as well! Perfect spice level for a spice sensitive.
Came for lunch with four people. It was my first time here. I had a really filling pumpkin salad with chicken. I really enjoyed it. Everyone else had toasties and loved them. Def check it out. I will return
